Benefits & Financial Support
The JJ/WBGSP scholarship is fully funded and provides comprehensive benefits, including: economy class air travel between the home country and the host university (round trip), a US $600 travel allowance for each trip, full tuition fees for the graduate program, the cost of basic medical insurance obtained through the university, and a monthly subsistence allowance to cover all living expenses (accommodations, food, books, etc.) while on campus. The monthly allowance varies based on the host country. (Approximate conversion: US $70,000 per year * 83 INR/USD = 5,810,000 INR annually).
Inclusions
Nationality:Be a national of a World Bank member developing country (refer to the official list on the World Bank website) and not hold dual citizenship of any developed country.
Health:Be in good health.
Education:Hold a bachelor's (or equivalent) degree earned at least 3 years prior to the application deadline.
Work Experience:Have at least 3 years of paid development-related employment since earning a bachelor's degree (or equivalent), acquired within the past 6 years from the application deadline. Must be employed in development-related work in a paid full-time position at the time of submitting the scholarship application. An exception may be made for nationals from countries on the list of Fragile and Conflict States.
Admission:On or before the scholarship application deadline date, be admitted unconditionally (except for funding) for the upcoming academic year to at least one of the JJ/WBGSP participating master's programs located outside the applicant's country of citizenship and country of residence.
Restrictions:Not be a staff member (including consultants) or a relative of a staff member of the World Bank Group. Not be a previous recipient of a JJ/WBGSP scholarship.
Commitment:Commit to returning to their home country after earning their degree to apply their new skills and contribute to their countries' social and economic development.

Applications are evaluated by two independent assessors based on four weighted criteria: Professional experience (30%), Professional recommendations (30%), Commitment to home country development (30%), and Educational background (10%)
The JJ/WBGSP Secretariat presents a list of finalists to the JJ/WBGSP Steering Committee (comprising World Bank Board of Directors and management) for final approval.
Renewal Policy
The JJ/WBGSP scholarship covers the duration of the graduate program or two years, whichever is less
There are no provisions for renewal beyond this specified period, as it is a one-time award for the entire master's program.
Application Process

- 2Secure University Admission
Apply for admission to one of the JJ/WBGSP Participating Master's Programs (outside your country of citizenship and residence). You must receive an unconditional offer of admission (with the exception of funding) for the upcoming academic year from a participating university.
- 3Await Scholarship Application Link
The link to the JJ/WBGSP application form will *only* be communicated to candidates who have been admitted unconditionally to a participating master's program and subsequently shortlisted as eligible JJ/WBGSP applicants by their university.
- 4Complete Scholarship Application
Once you receive the application link, complete and submit the JJ/WBGSP scholarship application online by the specified deadline (e.g., May 29, 2026, for Window 2 of the 2026 cycle). Ensure all required documents are uploaded.
