Selection Process

Candidates are selected based on their academic merit and domicile status. Applicants must be indigenous inhabitants of Nagaland or non-indigenous inhabitants permanently settled in Nagaland who have secured top 10 positions in Board/University exams within Nagaland. Applicants must be pursuing post-matriculation studies (above Class 10) in a recognized institution in India and meet specific academic percentage requirements from their last qualifying examination.

Applications undergo a two-level verification process: first by the Institute Nodal Officer (L1) and then by the State Nodal Officer (L2) to verify admission, course of study, certificates, fee structure, and other supporting documents. Students should not be receiving any other major scholarship. Students who have failed in their last examination (repeaters) or have a study break of more than two years are not eligible. Applicants must not be employees of any government or semi-government establishment.

To renew the Nagaland State Merit Scholarship, applicants must be previous beneficiaries who have passed their last examination with the qualifying percentage and are continuing in the same course. The minimum qualifying percentage for renewal is typically 80% for Class 12 and diploma students, and 70% for bachelor's and postgraduate levels. Students who have changed their course level since their last application must re-apply as fresh candidates. Students who have failed in their last examination are not eligible for renewal.
