Benefits & Financial Support
The scholarship provides a monthly basic stipend. For Master's students, this is approximately €850, plus a lump sum of €20 and additional subsidies for health and nursing insurance up to €86 per month. For PhD candidates, the monthly grant is approximately €1,400 to €1,350, along with a €100 monthly mobility allowance and an additional €20 lump sum payment for research costs and further health care subsidies. Scholarship holders can also receive funding for stays abroad. The annual amount for Master's students is approximately €11,472 (~1,249,271 INR), and for PhD students, it is approximately €18,240 (~1,988,092 INR).

Enrollment:
Master's applicants must be enrolled at a state or state-recognized German university.
PhD students must be accepted at a German university or temporarily residing in Germany for their study or research.
Academic Record:Demonstrated above-average academic achievement at school and/or university.
Language Proficiency:
German language proficiency at B2 level or above (proof required).
Good knowledge of English, with B2 level certificates accepted (e.g., IELTS Academic min. band 5.5, TOEFL iBT min. 81, Duolingo min. 100 points).
Social/Political Engagement:Strong social and political engagement in line with the aims of the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung (e.g., commitment to social justice, democracy, equality, and emancipation).
Preference:The foundation actively encourages applications from under-represented groups including women, students from non-academic family backgrounds, migrants, people facing financial hardship, and people with disabilities. Applications from scientific, technical disciplines, and graduates of technical colleges are also encouraged.
Prior Residency (for PhD):Eligible candidates for doctoral scholarships should not have been in Germany for more than 15 months at the time of application, unless they have already studied in Germany or began their doctorate/research stay more than 15 months ago.

The selection committee and executive board of the RLS make the final decisions.
Renewal Policy
The scholarship is initially granted for one year
It can be extended until the completion of studies, provided the academic progress and other prerequisites are continuously fulfilled
Extensions beyond the standard period of study (Regelstudienzeit) are possible in justified cases.
