Benefits & Financial Support
The scholarship is fully funded. It includes full tuition fee coverage, paid directly to the Swedish university. It provides a monthly allowance of SEK 12,000 (approximately 118,200 INR per month, based on 1 SEK = 9.85 INR) to cover living expenses. A one-time travel grant of SEK 15,000 (approximately 147,750 INR) is provided for most students, with SEK 10,000 (approximately 98,500 INR) for students from certain Eastern European countries. The scholarship also includes insurance against illness and accident and covers the Swedish residence permit application fee.
Inclusions
Citizenship:Must be a citizen of one of the 34 eligible countries. The exact list of countries is published on the official Swedish Institute website.
Master's Program:Must apply for an English-taught Master's program that is eligible for the SI scholarship. The list of eligible programs for 2026/2027 will be published in mid-November 2025.
Tuition Fee Liability:Must be liable to pay tuition fees to Swedish universities.
Work Experience:Must have demonstrated a minimum of 3,000 hours of work experience (equivalent to approximately 18 months of full-time work) prior to February 2026. This experience can be from full-time or part-time employment, freelancing, or entrepreneurship, from a maximum of three employers, and must be certified using official SI template forms.
Leadership Experience:Must have demonstrated leadership experience from a current or previous employer, or from civil society engagement.
Other Conditions:Specific conditions also apply regarding dual citizenship, previous residence, and studies in Sweden.

Selection Process
The selection process is highly competitive, with typically 2-6% of applicants being awarded the scholarship. It involves several stages:
University Admissions:Applicants first apply for up to four eligible Master's programs via UniversityAdmissions.se. Only applicants admitted to an eligible program by the university admissions announcement date are considered for the scholarship.
Scholarship Application:A separate application for the SI Scholarship is submitted through the Swedish Institute portal, including required documents.
SI Screening and Evaluation:The Swedish Institute screens and evaluates the scholarship applications. The assessment focuses on how the applicant's chosen education will contribute to the sustainable development of their home country and region, as well as demonstrated work and leadership experience.
Final Evaluation:A final evaluation is conducted after university admission results are announced.
Renewal Policy
The scholarship is awarded for full-time one-year or two-year Master's programs and covers the entire study period
The scholarship period cannot be changed or extended beyond the initially awarded duration, nor can it be transferred to a study program other than the one for which it was granted.
Application Process
- 1Apply for a Master's Programme
Between 16 October 2025 – 15 January 2026, apply for up to four eligible Master's programmes at Swedish universities through UniversityAdmissions.se. Save your 8-digit personal application number, as it is required for the scholarship application. Ensure you pay any application fees to University Admissions within the specified deadlines.
- 2Review Eligible Programmes
The list of Master's programmes eligible for the SI Scholarship for Global Professionals will be published on the SI website in mid-November 2025. Confirm that your chosen programmes are on this list.
- 3Prepare Required Documents
Gather and prepare all necessary documents, including your CV, work and leadership experience forms, and letters of recommendation, using the official SI templates. Obtain a copy of your passport/ID, academic transcripts, degree certificates, and draft your motivation letter.
- 4Apply for the SI Scholarship
The application portal for the SI Scholarships for Global Professionals will be open from 9-25 February 2026 (closing at 14:59 CET on the final day). Submit your scholarship application digitally through the Swedish Institute portal, using your University Admissions application number. You can only submit one application.
- 5Await University Admission Results
University admissions results will be announced on 26 March 2026. You must be admitted to one of the eligible Master's programmes to be considered for the scholarship.
- 6Await Scholarship Announcement
The SI Scholarship results will be announced on 23 April 2026.
- 7Confirm Acceptance
If awarded the scholarship, you must confirm your acceptance by the end of May 2026.
