The UGC Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) provides a monthly stipend of ₹37,000 for the first two years (JRF period). Upon successful assessment of research progress, the fellowship amount increases to ₹42,000 per month for the subsequent three years (Senior Research Fellowship - SRF phase). Additionally, fellows receive an annual contingency grant: ₹10,000 for Humanities & Social Sciences (JRF) and ₹20,500 (SRF), or ₹12,000 for Sciences (JRF) and ₹25,000 (SRF). House Rent Allowance (HRA) is also provided as per UGC norms and Government of India city categorization, if the fellow makes their own accommodation arrangements. The fellowship is typically disbursed directly to Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts through the Scholarship/Fellowship Management Portal (SFMP) managed by Canara Bank.
