How to Apply Online

Applications are submitted online via the official portal. Complete eKYC, upload scanned documents, and submit before the closing date.

  Choose Your Degree and Check Eligibility

  Begin by exploring the Master's by Research or PhD programs offered by the University of Sydney. Carefully review the academic and entry criteria for your chosen degree to ensure you meet all requirements.

  Develop Your Research Idea

  Before applying, you need a clear, specific, relevant, and academically strong research topic that aligns with the University's research strengths.

  Find a Supervisor

  This is a crucial step. You must identify and secure an academic supervisor whose research interests align with your proposed topic and who agrees to supervise your project. The University provides a 'research supervisor connect database' to help you find potential supervisors and ongoing research projects. When contacting a supervisor, clearly explain your academic background, research experience, proposed topic, and how your research aligns with their expertise.

  Prepare Required Documents

  Gather all necessary documents, which typically include: * An updated Curriculum Vitae (CV). * Academic transcripts of all previously completed degrees. * An initial research proposal (up to 2,000 words) outlining your research experience, proposed study plan, and reasons for choosing your supervisor/university. * Official proof of English language proficiency (if English is not your first language). * Referee reports. * Identity documents.

  Apply for Admission to an HDR Program

  Once you have secured a supervisor's agreement, formally apply for admission to your chosen Higher Degree by Research program through the University's online application system, often referred to as 'Sydney Courses'. During this process, you will receive a Student ID (SID) number.

  Apply for the Scholarship

  After submitting your admission application, you must complete a separate scholarship application form. Ensure you submit this form by the relevant deadlines and input your SID number as required. Commencing students are generally considered for the RTP scholarship when they apply for admission and submit the scholarship application form.

  Application Assessment and Outcome

  The University will review both your admission and scholarship applications. Scholarship outcomes are generally provided approximately 4-6 weeks after the scholarship closing date. You will be notified via email.

  Track Your Status

  Monitor your email for updates from the University regarding your application and scholarship status. For payment details, postgraduate research scholarships are typically paid fortnightly to your nominated Australian bank account.
