- โ
There are no quotas for individual disciplines or countries.
Renewal Policy
- โ
The Humboldt Research Fellowship offers flexibility in its duration and potential for extension
- โ
For postdoctoral researchers, fellowships can last between 6 to 24 months, while experienced researchers receive fellowships for 6 to 18 months
- โ
Both categories of fellowships can be divided into up to three separate stays within a three-year period
- โ
Extensions of the fellowship are possible if the originally proposed project cannot be meaningfully concluded within the approved timeframe
- โ
Postdoctoral researchers can extend their sponsorship up to a maximum total duration of 24 months, provided the extension period does not exceed the originally approved duration
- โ
However, extensions to pursue entirely new research projects or topics are not generally approved
- โ
Applications for an extension should be submitted to the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation three to four months before the current fellowship period concludes
- โ
Alumni of the Humboldt Foundation are also eligible to apply for support for renewed research stays in Germany after completing their initial fellowship.
