Ishan Uday is a special scholarship scheme by UGC for students of North Eastern Region to promote higher education.
Benefits & Financial Support

The scholarship provides financial assistance ranging from INR 64,800 to INR 93,600 per annum, depending on the course of study. Students enrolled in general degree courses receive INR 5,400 per month, while those pursuing technical, medical, professional, or paramedical courses receive INR 7,800 per month. The scholarship amount is disbursed annually through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) directly into the Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts of the beneficiaries via the Public Financial Management System (PFMS).

Note: For students of NER pursuing general or technical degree courses. 10,000 slots annually.

Selection Process

A total of 10,000 fresh scholarships are awarded annually

Eligibility requires students to be domiciled in one of the North Eastern Region (NER) states and to have passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognized Board of Education within the NER

Applicants must be admitted to the first year of a regular/full-time undergraduate degree program in a UGC-recognized university, institution, or college

The annual parental income from all sources must not exceed INR 4.5 lakh

Students pursuing courses through Open Universities, diploma/certificate courses, or those already availing another scholarship for the same undergraduate program are not eligible

In cases where the number of eligible applicants exceeds the available scholarships, awardees are selected based on the marks scored in their Class 12 or equivalent examination

A 3% horizontal reservation is provided for differently-abled persons

Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are directed to ensure their Institutional Nodal Officers (INOs) verify applications on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) within 15 days of submission.
Renewal Policy

The scholarship is renewable annually for the entire duration of the undergraduate course, typically three to five years

For renewal, scholars must maintain good conduct and required attendance

An annual progress report from the administrative head of the university/institution must be submitted

If a student changes their college or institution, the scholarship may be continued or renewed, provided the new course of study and institution are recognized, and the scholarship is not paid twice for the same year of study

If you are a new applicant, click on 'New Registration' or 'Apply For One Time Registration (OTR)'. Read the guidelines thoroughly and accept them.

Register using your Aadhaar number and mobile number. Verify your mobile number using the One Time Password (OTP) sent to it.
- 4Login
Log in to the portal using your generated Application ID and password.
- 5Fill Application Form
Complete the application form by providing accurate personal, academic, and bank details.

Under the UGC Schemes section, select the 'Ishan Uday Special Scholarship for North Eastern Region'.
