Prime Minister Special Scholarship Scheme (SSSJKL)

Candidates for the Prime Minister's Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) are selected through a multi-stage process for admission to colleges outside Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. Key selection criteria and process steps for the 2026-27 academic year include:

Eligibility:

Applicants must be permanent residents (domicile) of the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir or Ladakh.

Candidates should have successfully passed their Class 12 examination from JKBOSE or CBSE-affiliated schools located within J&K or Ladakh.

For lateral entry, candidates must hold a 10+3 engineering diploma from polytechnic institutions recognized by the Directorate of Technical Education in J&K or Ladakh.

The annual family income from all sources must not exceed ₹8 lakh.

Students must be willing to pursue higher education outside the UTs of J&K and Ladakh.

Candidates who qualify national-level tests like NEET, JEE, or CLAT are also eligible.

Ineligibility:

Students already benefiting from other central/state/UT government scholarships.

Applicants admitted through the 'Management Quota'.

Students enrolled in any postgraduate or diploma program (except for lateral entry).

Those enrolled in institutions not approved by AICTE.

Process:

Online Registration:Candidates must register through the official AICTE SSSJKL portal.

Document Verification:Applicants visit designated Facilitation-cum-Document Verification Centres (FDVCs) with original and photocopies of required documents.

Choice Filling:After document verification, candidates fill in their preferred colleges and courses during the choice filling window.

Merit List and Counseling:AICTE publishes a provisional merit list. Seat allotment is based on merit rank, category, and filled preferences. Students participate in online counseling to accept (freeze) or upgrade (float) their allotted seat.

Reporting to College:Physically report to the allotted institution with all necessary documents and the allotment letter within the specified timeframe.

Joining Report:Upload the AICTE-prescribed Joining Report on the portal, which will be verified by the institute.

A total of 5,000 fresh scholarships are available annually: 2,070 for General Degree Courses, 2,830 for Professional/Engineering Courses, and 100 for Medical/BDS or equivalent courses.

The scholarship under the Prime Minister's Special Scholarship Scheme is renewable for subsequent academic years, provided the student meets specific conditions.

Conditions for Renewal:

Maintenance of good conduct and attendance as specified by the respective institution.

Successful progression to the next class or level in their academic program.

Students who fail for a second consecutive time will forfeit the scholarship.

Renewal Process:

Eligible students must apply for renewal during the designated application window. For the 2026-27 academic year, the renewal application window was from June 1, 2026, to September 30, 2026.

This typically involves logging into the AICTE SSSJKL portal and submitting a 'Promotion cum Continuation Certificate' for the odd semester, which requires verification by the institute.

Institute verification for renewal applicants was open until October 15, 2026, and DNO/SNO/MNO verification until October 30, 2026 for the 2026-27 academic year.
