There are three ways Indian students attempt to satisfy this requirement:

The Truth About MOI (Medium of Instruction) Waivers
An MOI Certificate is an official letter issued by your Indian university (DU, VTU, Anna University, Mumbai University, etc.) stating: "This is to certify that [Student Name] completed their Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, and the medium of instruction and examination was 100% English."
Why Relying ONLY on an MOI Certificate is Dangerous:
- Only 1 out of 4 Universities Accept MOI: While a few universities (like FAU Erlangen or TU Darmstadt for specific courses) accept MOI, 75% of public German universities (including TUM, RWTH Aachen, TU Berlin) refuse MOI certificates from South Asian institutions.
- Departmental Discretion: University A might accept MOI for Mechanical Engineering, but their Computer Science department at the same university might reject it!
- DAAD Scholarship Rejection: DAAD scholarships (DAAD Scholarships Guide) NEVER accept MOI letters. You MUST provide an IELTS or TOEFL scorecard.
- Visa Processing Delays: VFS Visa officers scrutinize admission letters backed by MOI. If the admission letter says "Conditional on language proof," your visa will be held up.
Rule 1: Always Choose IELTS Academic (Not General Training)
Do NOT book IELTS General Training by mistake! German universities and Uni-Assist (Uni Assist Manual) strictly require IELTS Academic.
Rule 2: Scores are Valid for 2 Years
Your IELTS or TOEFL test result is valid for exactly 2 years from the date of the exam. Ensure your test date remains valid through the entire university application and visa processing window!
Rule 3: Use Electronic Score Reporting (TRF / ETS Code)
When filling out your university application or Uni-Assist:
- For IELTS: Provide your TRF (Test Report Form) Number.
- For TOEFL: Use the official ETS Institutional Code to send scores electronically.
Rule 4: Retake Immediately If Writing Score is Below 6.0
Indian students frequently score 7.5+ in Listening and Reading, but drop to 5.5 in Writing due to essay formatting. If your Writing band is 5.5, book a retake or a single-skill retake immediately to cross the 6.0 threshold.

Common Questions (FAQs)
Is Duolingo English Test (DET) accepted by German Public Universities?
NO. 98% of public German universities do NOT accept Duolingo. Duolingo is primarily used by US universities and private German colleges. Stick to IELTS Academic or TOEFL iBT.
Does my college need to issue the MOI, or can my department professor issue it?
If you are using MOI for the few universities that accept it, the certificate MUST be issued on the official letterhead of your university's Registrar, Controller of Examinations, or Dean, with an official rubber stamp and signature. Letters from individual department lecturers are invalid.
