Executive Summary: What is Uni-Assist?

Uni-Assist (Assoc. for International Student Applications) is an independent non-profit organization in Berlin hired by German public universities to evaluate international degrees.

Instead of each university evaluating thousands of Indian transcripts individually, universities hire Uni-Assist to:

  1. Verify if your Indian university is recognized on Anabin (3yr Bachelor Acceptance).
  2. Convert your Indian CGPA into a German Grade using the Bavarian Formula (Bavarian Grade Matrix).
  3. Check if your application contains your mandatory APS Certificate.

Trap 1: Applying Less Than 6 Weeks Before Deadline

  • Mistake: Submitting your Uni-Assist application on July 10 for a July 15 deadline.

  • Fix: Apply on Uni-Assist at least 6 to 8 weeks before the university deadline!

Trap 2: Missing the Digital APS Certificate PDF

  • Mistake: Uploading an old application receipt instead of the official digital APS Certificate.
  • Consequence: Instant rejection by Uni-Assist.
  • Fix: Ensure your digital APS PDF is uploaded under the official document section.

Trap 3: Submitting Low-Quality or Truncated Scans

  • Mistake: Taking phone photos of marksheets where edges are cut off or watermarks are blurry.
  • Fix: Use a professional flatbed scanner to create 300 DPI clean PDF documents.

Trap 4: Forgetting to Complete the Second Step in VPD Applications

  • Mistake: Obtaining your VPD PDF from Uni-Assist and assuming your application is finished!
  • Consequence: Uni-Assist does NOT forward VPD files automatically for Route 2 universities.
  • Fix: You MUST manually log into the university portal (e.g. RWTH Aachen portal) and upload the VPD PDF before their deadline!
