The Uttarakhand State Merit Scholarship scheme by the Higher Education Department, Government of Uttarakhand, provides financial assistance to meritorious students from SC, ST, OBC, and EBC categories. The scholarship covers pre-matric and post-matric levels of education across government and private recognized institutions within the state.

Scholarships range from a minimum of ₹1,500 to a maximum of ₹60,000, depending on the student's academic performance and year of study. Monthly scholarships of ₹1,500, ₹2,000, ₹3,000, and ₹5,000 are awarded to deserving undergraduate and postgraduate students based on their position and year. One-time lump sum scholarships of ₹20,000, ₹25,000, ₹35,000, and ₹60,000 are also provided for toppers in graduation and postgraduate final year examinations. The scholarship amount is directly credited to the student's Aadhaar-linked bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Selection Process

Candidates are selected based on their academic performance, securing first, second, or third positions in their respective faculties at undergraduate and postgraduate levels

For undergraduate first-year students, selection is based on a minimum of 80% marks in the 12th examination

For other undergraduate and postgraduate years, a minimum of 60% marks or an equivalent grade in the previous year's examination is required

Additionally, 10% of students from each faculty who secure a minimum of 75% marks and maintain at least 75% attendance are also eligible for a monthly scholarship

Marks obtained after improvement tests are not considered for scholarship calculation.
Renewal Policy

For scholarships awarded on a recurring basis, annual renewal is subject to the student maintaining a minimum of 75% attendance and securing at least 60% marks or an equivalent grade in the previous year's examination

Students must not have any backlogs or be involved in unfair means (UFM) cases or disciplinary misconduct

Students who fail an exam for the first time may have their scholarship renewed, but if they fail again, the scholarship will be discontinued until they pass the next class.
