About the Program

The Merit-Cum-Means Scholarship for Minorities (MCM) in Karnataka provides financial assistance to minority community students pursuing professional and technical courses at UG and PG levels. Administered by Ministry of Minority Affairs through NSP and Karnataka Directorate of Minorities through SSP, this scholarship offers Rs 20,000 per year. Students admitted to 85 premier institutes (IITs, NITs, IIMs) receive full course fee reimbursement plus maintenance. Minimum 50% marks, family income below Rs 2.5 lakh, admission through competitive exam required. Separate from general Post-Matric Minorities scheme (PMS).

For students in premier listed institutions (e.g., IITs, IIMs), it covers full course fee reimbursement without the ₹20,000 cap. Day scholars receive ₹5,000 annually (₹500/month for 10 months), while hostellers receive ₹10,000 annually (₹1,000/month for 10 months), in addition to the fee component.

Selection Process

  • Selection is based on merit and means:candidates must secure at least 50% marks in the previous qualifying exam and have an annual family income not exceeding ₹2.5 lakh

  • Admission to professional/technical courses must be through a competitive examination (or 50% marks if no competitive exam is required)

Renewal Policy

  • Renewal requires successful completion of the previous academic year without backlogs, maintaining regular attendance, and obtaining institutional verification

  • Candidates must apply on the Karnataka SSP portal using existing credentials and submit the NSP Application ID

  • The scholarship continues only if the student remains enrolled in the same course and meets all eligibility criteria annually.
