About the Program
National Scholarship Portal (NSP) is the central government's unified digital platform for registering, processing, and distributing central, UGC, and state schemes.

The scholarship amount for the Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students (CSSS) for the academic year 2026-27 is up to ₹20,000 per annum. For undergraduate students pursuing regular courses, the amount is ₹12,000 per annum for the first three years. For professional courses (including integrated courses) in the 4th and 5th years, and for postgraduate courses, the scholarship amount is ₹20,000 per annum. The scholarship funds are disbursed directly into the beneficiary's Aadhaar-seeded bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Direct tuition fee reimbursement, maintenance allowances, hostel fees, and equipment allowances.

Candidates for the Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship (CSSS) are selected based on merit and economic background

Applicants must have passed Class 12 from a recognized board with at least 80% marks in their chosen stream (Science, Commerce, or Humanities) and be pursuing a regular undergraduate or postgraduate program from an institution recognized by AICTE, UGC, or other regulatory bodies

Renewal Policy

To renew the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) scholarship, beneficiaries must log in to the portal using their previous year's Application ID or OTR ID and select the 'Renewal' option for the current academic year

Key conditions for renewal include maintaining a minimum of 50% marks in annual examinations, ensuring at least 75% attendance each academic year, and avoiding any disciplinary action or misconduct

How to Apply Online
Applications are submitted online via Online. Complete eKYC, upload scanned documents, and submit before the closing date.
- 1Visit the Official Portal
Go to the National Scholarship Portal website: `https://scholarships.gov.in`.
- 2Check Institution Registration
Before applying, verify if your institution is registered on NSP by using the 'Search for Institute' option. If not, request your institution to register.
- 3One Time Registration (OTR)
Click on 'New Registration' or 'Apply for One Time Registration (OTR)'. Read the guidelines carefully, accept the terms, and proceed.
- 4Aadhaar eKYC
Enter your mobile number to receive an OTP for verification. Then, complete Aadhaar eKYC using your Aadhaar number (or Aadhaar Enrollment ID if Aadhaar is unavailable). An OTP will be sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number for verification.
- 5Generate OTR ID
Upon successful eKYC, a unique 14-digit OTR ID will be generated, which is valid for your entire academic career. You will also receive an Application ID and password on your registered mobile number.
- 6Login
Log in to the NSP portal using your generated Application ID/OTR ID and password. You may be prompted to change your password after the first login.
- 7Fill Application Form
On your user dashboard, click on 'Application Form' (for fresh applicants) or 'Renewal' (for existing beneficiaries). Fill in all mandatory details accurately in sections like General Information, Academic Details, and Scheme Selection.
- 8Upload Documents
Upload scanned copies of required documents. These typically include Aadhaar card, bank passbook (Aadhaar-linked), income certificate, caste certificate (if applicable), academic mark sheets, bonafide certificate from the institution, and passport-sized photograph. For scholarships exceeding ₹50,000, documents must be uploaded; for smaller amounts, they might be submitted to the institution.
- 9Final Submission
Review all entered information carefully. Once confirmed, click on 'Final Submit'. Note that details cannot be edited after final submission. How to Track Status Online:

Visit `https://scholarships.gov.in` and log in with your OTR ID/Application ID and password.
- 11Access Application Status
Navigate to the 'Student Corner' or your dashboard and click on the 'Check Status' or 'Previous Year Application Status' link.
- 12Monitor Progress
The status will show verification progress by the institute and state, and eventually payment status. Regularly check for any defective application remarks and correct them within the specified window.
